Parkland Conspiracy Theories Have Made Us a Nation Within a Nation

“Nothing But The Best People” is never not going to be hilarious. From CNN:

Jon Cordova serves as the principal deputy assistant secretary for administration at HHS. A KFile review of Cordova’s social media accounts found that he pushed stories filled with baseless claims and conspiracy theories, including stories that claimed Gold Star father Khizr Khan is a “Muslim Brotherhood agent” and made baseless claims about Sen. Ted Cruz’s personal life. “Mr. Cordova is currently on administrative leave while we look into this issue further,” a HHS spokesperson said in a statement.

In July 2016, Cordova shared a story that asserted without evidence that Khan, who spoke out against Trump at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, was a “Muslim Brotherhood agent” and “a Muslim plant working with the Hillary Clinton campaign.” He also shared another story that falsely claimed the Clinton Foundation paid Khan. Cordova also shared unfounded and false stories that claimed Cruz, a Texas Republican frequented prostitutes, was involved in a sex scandal and was hiding various public records related to his birth and education.

This clown’s government employment, however brief it was, is of a piece with the absolute lunacy we are seeing from the conservative media networks regarding the surviving students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. (How the hell Jack Kingston still has a job with CNN is anybody’s guess. Soros!) An entire generation has grown up within this wingnut terrarium, which has its own private history, volumes of its own private conjuring words, and, in the case of the climate crisis, its own physical laws.

Those people are now in positions of influence, inside the government and out. One survivor, David Hogg, has been specifically targeted by the Gateway Pundit site, which is owned and operated by Jim Hoft, aka The Dumbest Man On The Internet (copyright, Wonkette LLC.). These clucks have White House press credentials. They shouldn’t be allowed any closer to the White House than the nearest locked ward. But Donald Trump, Jr. thinks their coverage has been just swell.

It is a nation within a nation now, permanently rooted in the overall media ecosystem. It is where the prion disease breeds.
